In this tutorial you will learn how to link directly to full text that is available for your Endnote references. You should have Endnote 7 or Endnote 9 software on your machine and be connected to the internet.
At the end of this tutorial you will be able to:
Open Endnote.

If you know the URL for a reference or if you have downloaded a reference from a database that includes the URL, the URL can be included in a record.

To get to the item, click on the URL in the Endnote record and as long as you have an internet connection and the link is correct, you should be able to get to the item.

Another, even easier way to link to the full-text of an article is to use Endnote’s Open URL capability which for Harvard University will take full advantage of the SFX Citation linker. Citation Linker will locate the electronic journals to which Harvard University users have access. OpenURL is a command in the Endnote References menu which will start your default browser and use the SFX citation linker to identify full-text resourses in the Harvard University Libraries.
Open the Endnote menu and choose Preferences.
Select OpenURL.

Click in the box labeled Enable OpenURL.
Delete the text in the OpenURL Path box.
Type in: "http://sfx.hul.harvard.edu/sfx_local"
Leave the arguments in the box as they are and click save.

Now see how this works.
Open Paleo.enl in Endnote.
Open the article by Barlow by double-clicking on it:

Under the References menu, choose OpenURL Link:

Using SFX, Endnote will search available Harvard University databases to see if any of them have the full text of this article.

Remember that even if the SFX citation linker does not find a full-text article, a search of HOLLIS may still lead to a full-text electronic or paper copy.
Using Endnote, tell us if you can get a full-text copy of the following article at Harvard University.
Platas, G., Ruibal, C., Collado, J. 2004. Size and sequence heterogeneity in the ITS1 of Xylaria hypoxylon isolates. Mycological Research 108:1, 71-75.
