Dorothy Barr has retired as MCB Librarian as of May 31, 2018 after 11 years of service. Please direct any research inquiries to Mary Sears or email@example.com. Dorothy worked with faculty and students in MCB, OEB and MCZ and is active in HMNH as a volunteer. She produced numerous Library Guides for classes and subject areas (e.g. Library Resources for SLS 19, Natural History Resources, Smell ), worked in Harvard Library and FAS to develop research, teaching and learning programs, and worked with faculty and students to ensure they have the resources they needed. She was also instrumental in organizing the case exhibits in the NW Labs first floor space.
Dorothy moved to Boston in 2002 to attend library school at Simmons. While in Boston working at Simmons and studying, she volunteered at the Franklin Park Zoo. After three years in the Lamar Soutter Library at UMass Med School in Worcester and volunteering at the Ecotarium there, she came to Harvard in 2007. Previously she worked in a science museum, for a veterinarian, at a zoo, a high school and Syracuse Opera among other jobs, and spent many years as a childbirth educator. She also worked in Entomology at the SUNY School of Forestry (as it was then) and at UConn. In addition to the MLIS, she has a master’s in Classics from Syracuse University, and a MALS in Natural History from SUNY Empire State.
