Highlights of this historical tour include Konrad Gesner’s Historiae animalium (1551); Theodor Schwann’s 1839 Mikroskopische Untersuchungen (1839); Erasmus Darwin’s Zoonomia (1794) and his grandson Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species (1860); and Maria Sibylla Merian’s Histoire Generale des Insectes de Surinam (1771).
